What this route is for
This page is built for RAF CBAT candidates searching for a clear, useful starting point. It explains the test style, the skills involved, and the quickest route to practical training and guide content.
- Practise the cognitive and psychomotor skills most consistently linked with RAF aptitude testing.
- Use module guides to understand the task before you start timed practice.
- Track broad readiness trends and focus on weaker domains rather than chasing a single score.
How to prepare without overcomplicating it
CBAT is set in one sitting at RAF College Cranwell, which is exactly why breadth matters more here than depth on any single task. Turning up having only drilled the module you found hardest is a common mistake — the battery moves through every domain in one day, so familiarity with the full spread counts for more than mastery of one corner of it.
Read a task's guide before you touch the timer. Most avoidable marks lost on CBAT-style tasks come from a misread instruction or a rushed first attempt, not a genuine ability gap — so a few minutes understanding the method pays off more than an extra ten timed runs at a task you don't yet understand.
Move from reading to guided practice
Once a task makes sense, move into the practice library and work the module itself. Filter by category if there's a domain you know is weaker, and keep coming back to it across sessions rather than trying to fix it in one sitting.
Build confidence with a realistic battery
CBAT asks you to hold concentration across a full day, switching between very different kinds of thinking without a long break to reset. That's a different skill from being good at any one task in isolation, and it only shows up once you've strung several modules together under time pressure.
Run a full or partial mock battery once your method feels stable on the individual modules. It's the closest rehearsal for the actual day you can get without being at Cranwell itself.
Ready to begin?
Choose the right practice path and build familiarity with the task
Read the CBAT guide first if you haven't already, then head into the practice library. That order — understand, then drill — is the whole strategy.
