This module focuses on information retrieval, logical inference, numerical reasoning and efficient navigation. It is designed to make the underlying process easier to recognise, repeat and review before you add more speed or workload.

Search, combine, answer: worked examples

Read the question first and identify the exact fact it needs before opening any page. Only two pages can be open at once in the real exercise, so search with the index rather than reading everything. Most questions need a fact from more than one page.

1. Combine a rate with a target

One page states a reservoir holds 3 litres. Another page states a pump fills it at 0.1 litres per second, stopping automatically once full. How long does a fill from empty take?

Show answer and method
  1. Fill time = capacity ÷ rate.
  2. 3 ÷ 0.1 = 30 seconds.
  3. The two facts sit on separate pages — hold the first value while locating the second, rather than reopening both repeatedly.

Watch out: Treating 0.1 as a whole-litre step. 3 ÷ 0.1 means "how many 0.1s fit into 3," which is 30, not 3.

2. Two thresholds, two different questions

One page states a valve opens once a reservoir reaches 2 litres. A separate page states a warning appears if filling from empty takes longer than 45 seconds. At a fill rate of 0.1 litres per second, does the warning appear before the valve opens?

  1. Time to reach the 2-litre valve threshold: 2 ÷ 0.1 = 20 seconds.
  2. 20 seconds is less than the 45-second warning threshold.
  3. So the valve opens well before any warning could appear.

No — the valve opens at 20 seconds, inside the 45-second warning threshold.

Watch out: Answering from only one page’s fact. System Logic questions are built specifically so that no single page answers them alone.

3. Search the index, don’t read everything

The information system has ten pages, but the question only asks which single source must supply a component directly. What is the fastest way to answer it?

  1. Identify the exact nouns in the question before opening anything.
  2. Use the index to open the one page that names that component, rather than opening pages in order.
  3. Read only the sentence that answers the exact question asked, then stop.

Search by keyword, open the one relevant page, and stop once the matching fact is found.

Watch out: Opening every page "just in case." Only two pages can be open at once in the real exercise, so an unfocused search wastes that allowance.

A short drill before you start

Practise two-step lookups where one page gives a rate and another gives a target or threshold, and answer using both. Time how long it takes to find one specific fact in a list of unrelated statements before adding a second fact to combine it with.

The time allowed drops from 10 minutes to 6 while the number of panel switches you are permitted rises from 30 to 50, rewarding more efficient navigation.

How scoring works

The result reflects performance in this Academy module. Accuracy is the main signal for decision tasks, while timing, missed targets, false responses or control error can also contribute where the task requires them. Assessment mode is more suitable for trend comparisons than adjustable practice runs.

Why this becomes difficult

  • Large amounts of irrelevant information compete with the needed facts.
  • Useful facts may be split across different pages.
  • Opening pages aimlessly wastes time and working memory.
  • Some questions require arithmetic after the correct data are found.
  • Technical terminology can make a simple relationship look complicated.

  • Read the question first and identify exact nouns, values or relationships.
  • Use headings and the index as a search tool instead of reading everything.
  • Hold the first fact as a short value while retrieving the second.
  • Translate system language into a simple flow model.
  • Return to the index if a page is not relevant within a few seconds.

  • Confusing similar system components or units.
  • Finding one fact and answering before locating the second dependency.
