What the test trains
This module focuses on perspective transformation, spatial reasoning, selective attention and rapid response selection. It is designed to make the underlying process easier to recognise, repeat and review before you add more speed or workload.

What it involves
- Decide whether the aircraft is facing toward or away from you.
- Translate the observed movement into the pilot-relative input: left, right, up or down.
- On harder rounds, identify and control the red aircraft while ignoring distractors.
- When the aircraft faces you, mirror the apparent direction; toward-right becomes pilot-left and toward-left becomes pilot-right.

How the Academy version works
CBAT Academy presents an independently developed browser exercise with its own questions, graphics, timing and scoring. The instruction screen explains the current workload before launch; it does not claim to reproduce an official assessment screen or confidential question set.

How scoring works
The result reflects performance in this Academy module. Accuracy is the main signal for decision tasks, while timing, missed targets, false responses or control error can also contribute where the task requires them. Assessment mode is more suitable for trend comparisons than adjustable practice runs.

Why this becomes difficult
- The response must come from the pilot’s point of view, not your screen perspective.
- Toward-facing aircraft require left/right and up/down transformations.
- Harder rounds add selective attention by showing several aircraft at once.
- A response based on the wrong aircraft can be correct in principle but still incorrect.
Preparation tips
- Make orientation your first decision: toward or away.
- Memorise the mirrored cases until they feel automatic.
- When several aircraft are visible, locate red first and deliberately ignore the others.
- Use compact labels such as “toward-right = left”.
- Practise left/right and up/down reversals separately before combining them.
Common mistakes
- Pressing the direction the aircraft appears to move on screen.
- Forgetting to check toward versus away.
- Tracking the wrong aircraft in multi-aircraft rounds.
- Reversing left/right but forgetting to mirror climb and dive.
- Carrying the previous question into the next response.
Useful practice drills
- Mirror left/right hand movements while facing a partner.
- Use toward/away arrow cards and call out the pilot-relative response.
- Practise all eight orientation-response combinations.
- Add distractor aircraft only after the perspective rule is automatic.
- Run short rapid-response blocks rather than long sessions that encourage guessing.
